Labanyagada: The protected red sandal forest of Gajapati district, Odisha, India

Abstract: The paper reports 94 plant species under 83 genera and 44 families of which 34 are dicot, 7 monocot and 3 pteridophyta. The plant species constitute 34 herbs, 10 shrubs, 9 climbers and 41 tree species. There are no gymnosperm species found in the forest. The forests are dry deciduous type and dominated by Rakta Chandan (Pterocarpus santalinus L.). In this forest 737 red sandal trees were present.
