Abstract: Mimusops elengi is a potent medicinal plant with several therapeutic uses mentioned in traditional medicine. The various extracts of the plant (bark, fruit, leaves, seed, and flowers) have been reported to be cardiotonic, alexipharmic and stomachic, hypotensive, antibacterial, anthelmintic, anti-gastric ulcers, teeth cleaner and renewable sources of energy. The aim of this review was to compile the information about pharmacological properties ofMimusops elengi. Literature was searched on computerized databases as well as medicinal plants texts. This review shows that Mimusops elengi has various pharmacological properties proved by experimental studies. More studies are needed before the pharmacological properties of Mimusops elengi can be utilized in therapy.
