Role of flavonoids from medicinal plants in cardiometabolic health
Author(s): T Steffen and T Klotz
Abstract: Flavonoids, a diverse class of polyphenolic compounds found in various medicinal plants, are increasingly recognized for their role in promoting cardiometabolic health. These naturally occurring compounds possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, lipid-lowering, and glucose-regulating properties that make them effective in addressing cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and metabolic disorders such as diabetes and obesity. This review focuses on significant findings from recent clinical and preclinical studies that illustrate how flavonoids improve endothelial function, reduce inflammation, regulate lipid profiles, and enhance insulin sensitivity. By exploring their molecular mechanisms and therapeutic potential, this paper highlights the importance of flavonoids in managing cardiometabolic health.
