Abstract: The synergistic effect of Carica papaya and Musa paradisiaca aqueous leaf extracts on kidney and liver of adult rats exposed to indomethacin was investigated. Group A was negative control, Group B were administered with a single dose of 25 mg/kg body weight of indomethacin, allowed to fast for 4 hours before sacrificed. Group C were given pretreated 0.2 ml of 250 mg/kg body Carica papaya, Group D with 250 mg/kg body of Musa paradisiaca and Group E with the combined leaf extracts (250 mg/kg body weight) of Musa paradisiaca and Carica papaya for 14 days. Followed by administration of 0.2 ml of 25 mg/kg body weight of indomethacin orally and allowed for 4 hrs before sacrifice. Organs were harvested, fixed with 10% formalin, processed and stained with hematoxylin and Eosin. Indomethacin is toxic to the liver and kidney while synergy of both extracts offered hepatoprotection and caused nephritis and tubal cell damage in renal histology and demonstrated hepatoprotection.
