Abstract: The objective of the current study was to assess the essential oil content and chemical composition of Ocimum sanctum L., growing in the Uttarakhand, India. The hydro-distilled essential oil was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The essential oil content was found to be 1.2% (v/w). Results demonstrated that the oil was found to be rich in phenyl derivative compounds (62.68%) The major compound was identified as Eugenol (59.95%), among twenty-seven compounds, comprising 94.32% of the total oil.
