The role of phytochemicals in preventing and managing chronic non-communicable diseases

Abstract: This review article provides a comprehensive overview of the role of phytochemicals in preventing and treating various chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, chronic respiratory diseases, liver disease. Phytochemicals, bioactive compounds found in plants, have been shown to possess antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, making them a potential natural approach to maintaining human health. The article discusses the various types of phytochemicals, their sources, and their mechanisms of action in preventing and treating chronic diseases. The advantages of using phytochemicals, including their ability to prevent oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell damage, as well as their potential to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, are highlighted. However, the article also notes some disadvantages of phytochemicals, including their potential toxicity and interactions with other medications. Overall, this review article provides a comprehensive overview of the role of phytochemicals in preventing and treating chronic diseases.
