Before two centuries ago, even in contemporary medicine, there was no separate branch like sports medicine. Ayurveda and Yoga can play a crucial role in prevention, treatment, management and rehabilitation in sports injury as Ayurveda focuses on both preventive and curative aspect. It covers a wide range of sports-related topics, including nutrition, regular exercise, lifestyle, management of injuries, and rehabilitation plans. Human body is composed of seven Dhatu (tissue) and have six layers of Twacha (skin). Various procedures like Vrana Shodhana (Cleaning of Wound), Vrana Ropana (Cleaning of Wound), Vrana Bandhana (Bandaging of Wound) are mentioned under Sadhyovrana Chikitsa (Acute Wound Management) that can be utilized for acute sports injury. Vedana Shaman (Pain management) and Mamsa Shopha Chikitsa (Treatment of Muscle Sprains) can help to relieve swelling and pain. Whereas proper Yoga, active and passive movement of body parts and proper diet and lifestyle can help in early healing and fast rehabilitation in patients of sports injury.
