Abstract: The prevalence of anxiety disorders is rising globally, and traditional therapies frequently have drawbacks. Recent research has confirmed the anxiolytic properties of medicinal plants, which have been used for generations to treat anxiety. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the available data regarding the anti-anxiety effects of ten medicinal plants: Ginkgo biloba, African Peach, Devilla, Saffron, Valerian officinalis, Avicennia officinalis, Kava, Hyoscyamus niger, Clitoria ternatea, and Withania somnifera. According to studies, these plants have anxiolytic effects via a number of pathways, including as antioxidant activity, GABAergic system regulation, and interactions with serotonin and dopamine receptors. The bioactive substances flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and saponins are in charge of these actions. The potential of these medicinal plants as complementary or alternative treatments for anxiety disorders is highlighted in this review. To completely comprehend their modes of action, ideal dosages, and possible interactions with traditional drugs, more research is needed.
