Ethnomedicinal plants used by the tribal women during childbirth, postpartum and infant healthcare in the rural areas of Karauli District, Rajasthan, India

Abstract: Tribals in rural areas of Karauli district, Rajasthan (India), still rely on medicinal plants for their main source of health care. In addition, several diseases are addressed by medicinal plants, such as childbirth, postnatal care and infant’s health. The present study was conducted with the main aim of documenting the traditional knowledge of tribal and other village people of the Karauli region of Rajasthan (India) for the plants used in childbirth, postpartum and infant care. The study was conducted in 28 villages where field work was done and plant specimens were collected for identification after data gathering through the interview. A checklist of Medicinal plants was compiled from 137 informants, out of which 123 were women. 40 medicinal plants of 29 families were indicated and included in the current study. Plants used to treat childbirth (10%), postpartum (82%) and infant health care (8%) per frequency area.
