Abstract: One new ceramide, Nepetifoliamide, together with six known compounds were isolated from the aerial parts ofLeonotis nepetifolia.Their structures were established on the basis of mass spectrometry, NMR data and by the comparison with literature data. Some of the isolated compounds were evaluated for their anticonvulsant effects on pentylenetetrazol, picrotoxin induced convulsions in mice. All the tested treatments showed anticonvulsant effects on experimental models of epileptic seizures chemically induced in mice. Nepetifoliamide showed up to 66.66% protection of animals against convulsions, stigma-5,22-diene-3-O-?-D-glucopyranoside produced a maximum of (50%) protection, Ethyl Acetate extract (ALN3) showed a maximum of (83.33%) protection and n-hexane extract (HLN2) (83.33%) protection.
