Abstract: Postpartum hemorrhages (PPH) are main cause of maternal death worldwide. Currently natural products represent option values as a rich source of phytochemical compounds with beneficial activities on human health for the treatment of illness such as PPH. In México, herbal medicine has been a common practice that is still a part of the health systems, especially in rural areas. Different species of the genus Tradescantia are used for respiratory diseases, treating bleeding, burns, and injuries, and it is often used as uterotonic. The use of Tradescantia species for stopping PPH by midwives is rumored by the people living in the biocultural region Huasteca, but with null formal recorded information about the methods or preparations. Here, we present ethnomedicinal information on the actual use of Tradescantia spathacea and T. zebrina by traditional medicine practitioners.
